Magnetic switches are commonly used in pneumatics to sense the cylinder pistons’ position. Magnetic switches react to a magnet incorporated into the cylinder piston which causes an electric signal to be turned on or off when close to the magnetic switch’s switching range. Magnetic Switches with LED display without an own power supply may not be connected to other magnetic switches in series.
Use connection cables which are as short as possible. The inherent capacitance to cables may cause malfunctions. Cables should not be in immediate reach of larger iron parts or electronic motors. Dysfunctions due to mutual inductions are possible. Magnetic switches are able to sense a signel at a speed of 1 m/sec. Distance is proportional to the force of the magnet.
